Student Scholarships

ISSA celebrates student creativity and excellence in art by awarding a scholarship to an applicant who has a passion for art and has created at least two works in scratchboard. Each year, ISSA awards a $1000 scholarship to a student meeting the requirements listed below.

Qualifications to Enter:
● Applicants must be one of the following:
– A full-time Junior or Senior in good standing in high school
High School Juniors picked as recipients will not receive the scholarship money until they provide a college acceptance letter and final transcript in their senior year.
– A full-time Freshman or Sophomore in good standing in an accredited university or community college

● Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, transcript required

● Provide a letter of recommendation from an art instructor

● Write a 1000-word essay describing your qualifications and reasons for applying

● Submit 6 current works of art created by the applicant (completed in past 24 months) and including a minimum of 2 scratchboard works in the portfolio. More than two works in scratchboard welcome and encouraged. Digital images will be submitted via the form below. Please see the notes below for image sizing requirements.

● High school students must provide an acceptance letter to a university/community college. College students must provide proof of continued enrollment for the upcoming year. Individuals are only eligible to win this award one time. However, applicants may apply each year they are eligible if they don’t win the previous year.

Application Deadline: April 15th of each year.
Awards will be announced on or before May 15.

In addition to the $1000 scholarship, the recipient will receive a one-year Associate membership in ISSA. The name of the recipient will be published in the ISSA Newsletter, on our website, and on our Facebook page.

ISSA Board Members, Officers, and their immediate family members (parents, spouses, siblings, children) are not eligible.

***Regarding size & quality of art images submitted
– Please submit images in JPG format, at 72 dpi, sized so that the longest dimension is 1000 pixels
– Make sure your images include only the art (no frame, mat, or background), are in focus, accurately represent the work, and have even lighting (no glare or hot spots)
– Applications with images that do not meet these guidelines may be eliminated from consideration.
